Live Review: PREMIERE: Nick AM enlists Sydney artist Violet to deliver emotive lo-fi house on 'lil red'

Merging lo-fi house with indie electronica is Iranian-American producer NICK AM. His debut EP FATALE is officially out today, touching on the nuances of of romances both found and lost. The EP comes with a new single in the form of 'lil red', which we're very excited to be premiering here on Purple Sneakers today.

The track features Sydney singer/songwriter/producer extraordinaire Violet, whose been spending the last little bit writing music with To Kill A Deadman and exploring the soundtrack format. The pairing of the two is an extremely apt one, with Violet bringing her penchant for deeply emotive songwriting into the territory of emotive club music.

The track samples French new wave film 'Breathless', touches on death and immortality and a tale of a love gone sour, all in the space of three and a half minutes.

Violet's floating voice pans between pain and confidence, Nick AM's collage-style of creating being the glue in tying the whole track together.

Closing out with some cinematic sampling, completely shifting the mood of the track, it really does go to show how powerful the internet can be in fostering both beautifully creative relationships, and also creating something entirely other worldly.

Of the pair's meeting and their musical relationship, Violet said:

"Nick & I met through Soundcloud a few years ago after messaging one another, eventually we began working on a track together that would become ‘Lil Red’. 

We went back a forth over the course of a few years and always kept in touch via social media, one day I noticed him in the back of a photo one of my high school friends had posted to social media, so I messaged her asking if they knew each other. She was living in New York at the time and turns out they were housemates,  so even though me and Nick have never met in person we do have one mutual friend - the world is very very small."
