Live Review: Kult Kyss provide soaring ceremonial sounds on 'Rituals'

28 June 2019 | 9:49 am | Caitlin Medcalf

Melbourne duo Kult Kyss return with their divine first track of 2019, 'Rituals', co-produced with KIM of The Presets.

There isn't an artist in the world sounding like Melbourne duo KULT KYSS right now. With a fully realised project extending across multiple disciplines, including photos, graphics, videos and even right down to their live show costumes, they today return with another piece of the puzzle in 'Rituals'.

Co-produced alongside Kim of The Presets, - who they supported on tour last year - 'Rituals' takes Kult Kyss' signature sound up a few notches, bringing high-energy in with carefully crafted sound design and round it all out with thick layers of low-end end to create a dense track.

Vocalist Rromarin lends her highly distinctive voice to these sweeping soundscapes, giving the feeling of the wind hitting your cold arms on a windy day. Her voice offers a refreshing splash of human energy atop the beautifully mastered instrumental, giving an almost tribal feel to it.

Haxx brings nothing but precision to the production, each sound having its own carefully thought out place in the track, and whether it be a prominent feature or a fleeting image of sound, their feeding into one another is what ultimately makes this track so impactful. Ritual noise for the soul.

On 'Rituals' and its creation, Kult Kyss said:

In creating 'Rituals' we wanted to explore the concept of the divine in every day moments and experiences; in particular the timeless act of humans coming together to dance. The song is designed to convey the power of these modern-day rituals, blending organic synths, chanting vocals and syncopated drums. KIM and Anthony Garvin were huge assets to the track, bringing their own touch of magic to 'Rituals' and helping crystallise our vision for the song.”

Kult Kyss will be performing at their debut live headline show in Melbourne in a few months time. Details below.
