Live Review: AK Sports unleashes the acid 'Beast'

2 July 2019 | 10:43 am | Caitlin Medcalf

When we dubbed Madi Carr AKA AK SPORTS one of our artists to watch earlier in the year, we had no idea that the year would be so huge for the producer already. After relocating recently from Sydney to London, she's not letting a moment pass by, and she's today shared her second cut in 'Beast, out via Berlin label Tooflez Muzik.

Her debut 'Professor Bitch' saw her turn her attention to chunky breaks and warm soundscapes, topped off with one hell of a sample job, turning Princess Nokia dialogue into a fully-fledged rave anthem.

'Beast' sees her take a step further into warehouse rave territory, this time turning up the acid and giving us nothing but punchy, grimy acid-house.

Kicking off with a slow-entering array of percussion, the melody slowly fights its way to the surface, that crunchy acid leading us into what soon descends into organised chaos. A synth stab shoots machine-gun style, the rapid fire nature of it elevating this one to techno status.

A delicate, smooth lil synth line comes in towards the second drop, adding an element of softness to this industrial-percussive haven.

AK Sports' 'Beast' is a heady indication of what's to come from the Sydney producer, and if there's one thing we've learned about her these past 12 months, it's that she's damn ready for what's coming.
