The ten best songs of the week you need to hear right now including cuts from Hauskey, GENES, Harvey Sutherland, Glass Animals, Hallie and more!

Each week, we receive countless submissions of exciting new music, so we’ll be taking you through a weekly wrap up of all our favourite new tunes every Friday called #TrustedForTaste. For more new music and news, head to the Purple Sneakers website. Read on for new music from Hauskey, GENES, Harvey Sutherland, Buttercats, Glass Animals, Hallie, San Mei, Billy Davis, Craterface and Yves Tumor.

HAUSKEY - Slow

As far as debut singles go, they don't get much more impressive than the first cut from Hauskey. Titled 'Slow', Hauskey takes inspiration from the likes of Dominic Fike or Rex Orange County, adds in his own refined songwriting and combines it all together with pop sensibilities to create a warm, breezy jam perfect for the last few moments of summer. An exciting first foray into the world, we can't wait to hear more from Hauskey!

GENES - When I'm Around You

Coming through with pop perfection, rising star GENES delivered this week with her second single, 'When I'm Around You'. Capturing that intoxicating moment when you realise there's something more with someone else, 'When I'm Around You' is a summery bop with infectious vocals, a swirl of 80s nostalgia and brilliant songwriting, and is a serious step up from GENES' debut just last year. Having cut her teeth working with other artists, she's now stepping into her own well deserved spotlight and with bops like this up her sleeve, we can't wait to hear what's next. It's only up from here for GENES!

YVES TUMOR - Gospel For A New Century

Sitting somewhere between psych-rock and modern pop, Yves Tumor is truly making music like no one else right now. 'Gospel For A New Century' is the first taste from his forthcoming album, Heaven To A Tortured Mind, and is a chaotic, full-bodied experience from start to finish, but one that takes you carefully by the hand into the chaos instead of throwing you into the fire alone. It's the latest in the artist's boundary pushing back catalogue, and a thrilling sneak peek at what's to come.

SAN MEI - Cherry Days

In what might the dreamiest song we've heard in a while, San Mei is back with another soaring, driving indie pop gem just before she heads over to Austin for SXSW. Marking the first time she's stepped into production duties, 'Cherry Days' is dripping with nostalgic 90s vibes and features her trademark heavenly vocals. There's a reason there's so much buzz around San Mei at the moment, and 'Cherry Days' is all the proof you need to know its absolutely deserved.

GLASS ANIMALS - Your Love (Deja Vu)

Coming hot on the heels of the news they're making their way back to Australia this year for Splendour In The Grass, Glass Animals make their return to our ears with 'Your Love (Deja Vu)'. Their most experimental single yet, this latest single channels Timbaland and The Neptunes and is the first cut from their forthcoming third album. It's so impossibly groovy, outrageously fun and uniquely seductive in the way only Glass Animals can pull off. Can't get enough.

HARVEY SUTHERLAND - Superego

Just before he hits the road supporting Hot Chip next month, Harvey Sutherland is back with another funk-filled intergalactic bop titled 'Superego'. Getting you two-stepping in no time, 'Superego' is Sutherland at his best. Apparently produced in "self-imposed confinement at his velvet-lined studio bunker" according to YouTube, Harvey went it alone for 'Superego' without his band, going "inside his own head for a while." "File under: Neurotic Funk" the description goes onto read, and while that's not a genre we can say we've heard of before, when it sounds this good we can absolutely get around it.

CRATERFACE - -12° feat. FRITZ & Aquinas

Take one part Kevin Abstract, one part JPEGMAFIA, a dash of SOPHIE and mix it all together with a bit of good old Newcastle and you get craterface. A rising alt rap duo, craterface have tapped fellow Novocastrians FRITZ and Aquinas for their latest single, ‘-12°’ - a melting pot of off-the-wall beats, abrasive vocals and hectic energy interspersed with moments of reprieve courtesy of FRITZ's forlorn singing. It's an full-on listen but one that makes craterface stand out as an act worth keeping a close eye on.

HALLIE - Sympathy

Since taking out the Triple J Unearthed Bigsound Competition 2019Hallie has been a steady star on the rise and with her latest single, 'Sympathy', she well and truly levels up. Roaring vocals, heavenly harmonies and searing guitars combine for a stellar indie-pop release that packs more than a few punches. Working with Holy Holy's Oscar Dawson, Hallie sounds more self-assured than ever before on 'Sympathy', totally in control of the cacophony that swells around her. A call to arms to rethink how we spend our energy in life and opting for more positive outlets than gossip and judgement of others, this is an exciting step up from the young Brisbane artist.

BUTTERCATS - Thunderstruck

if you're after a dose of lo-fi disco funk, Brisbane band Buttercats have you sorted with 'Thunderstruck'. One for late-night lovers, 'Thunderstruck' is a seductive, hypnotic jam dripping in 90s nostalgia without ever venturing too far into a cliche. For fans of Parcels, Anderson .Paak and Kaytranada, 'Thunderstruck' is a perfect mood-setter for lovers new and old thanks to its sensual vocals, sexy bass and disco stylings. Having carved a name out for themselves in the local Brisbane scene, it seems its only up from here for Buttercats.

BILLY DAVIS - I Ain't (Ft PJ Morton and Jordan Dennis)

Billy Davis and Jordan Dennis might be one of the best musical teams this country has seen in recent times. In their latest combined effort, they've tapped PJ Morton for added vibes and the result is one straight up, feel-good jam. Davis goes from strength to strength with everything he does, and with Dennis on the mic, the pair just can't lose. 'I Ain't' features soulful vocals, bouncy beats, organs, explosive verses and an infectious hook — basically the recipe for a bonafide hit in our books!
