Live Review: PREMIERE: Elsy Wameyo reconnects with a higher purpose on 'Pastor'

25 February 2020 | 11:06 am | Emma Jones

Premiering on Purple Sneakers, rising Adelaide artist ELSY WAMEYO is back with her second single this week titled 'Pastor'.

Rising Adelaide artist ELSY WAMEYO is back with her second single this week, and we couldn't be more thrilled to premiere it today on Purple Sneakers. Following on from her stellar 2019 debut, 'Outcast', Wameyo continues to shine bright with 'Pastor' - a bombastic, gospel-infused RnB track with a whole lot of heart.

Working again with Mario Späte (Tkay Maidza, Montaigne), 'Pastor' sees Wameyo emerge empowered despite the song being written during a time she was feeling defeated. All about her reminding herself of her purpose and her connection to her faith, 'Pastor' is an explosive moment from the fresh young talent, and is one that will stay with you long after the song has finished.

Speaking to Purple Sneakers, Elsy Wameyo said of the track, "Pastor is musically different from Outcast though it comes from the same place in my heart. Feelings of anger, confusion and hope. I wrote Pastor right after Outcast and they both do a great job of depicting how I felt and still feel today. I was quite vulnerable with Pastor and I’m becoming more comfortable with being transparent and raw with my music. I’m still learning so much more about myself, my sound and I’m especially loving this beautiful journey of being lost."

Released via Music in Exile (Gordan Koang, Ajak Kwai), 'Pastor' is an exciting step up and one that is hopefully a sneak peek of what's still to come. With support slots locked in for the likes of Sampa The Great and Montaigne in the coming weeks, it's clearly only up from here for Elsy Wameyo!
