Slumberjack's guide to Perth's best spots

3 March 2020 | 2:11 pm | Emma Jones

Following on from their 2019 EP, Perth duo SLUMBERJACK were quick to set 2020 alight with brand new music. In the form of what they called The Black & Blue EP, this EP saw them continue to collaborate, bringing on Cory Enemy, FOMO and Daktyl to amplify their already monstrous sound, while also exploring new, uncharted territory. Having cut their teeth over the past few years and making a name for themselves by always staying ahead of the masses, SLUMBERJACK look set to continue their steady rise to global juggernauts in the bass scene.

SLUMBERJACK said of their new EP, “The Black & Blue EP is the first real ‘LA’ record we’ve released - every song came from a unique experience in the city, whether it was through working with our friends as co-collaborators (‘Black & Blue’, ‘Crucified’, ‘Hades’) or just being inspired by the grittier, almost cyberpunk surrounds (‘NORF’).”

To catch up with the boys and get to know them a little better, we asked them to provide us with an updated version of their guide to the best spots in Perth, Western Australia. From date spots to the best pho around, SLUMBERJACK have you covered if you're in the West! Check it all out below.

Where We Drink

Morgan: Sneaky Tony’s. It’s ALMOST like a private bar where we can still be ourselves and have a good time with a great crew. It kinda reminds us of the places we frequent in LA;  great whiskeys, candlelit and quickstep jazz in a prohibition-esque setting, things could get out of control real fast (in a good way).

Where We Eat: U&I Café

Fletch: What’s not to love about 24 Hour Pho. If I’m out past midnight, it’s a guarantee I’ll end up here for a late night feed and you better believe I’m getting the Pho Tai.

Where We Relax: Rotto

Fletch: For those not from the West Coast, Rottnest is an island about 20 kilometres off the coast of Perth. The accommodation is old and simplistic, but everything is nostalgic and there is something magical about disconnecting, sitting on your balcony and looking out across the water with absolutely nothing on your mind.

Where We Party

Morgan: At home. Since we spend most of our touring time in clubs and venues, we get over it sometimes and just prefer to stay at home AND still get rowdy if we need to blow off some steam.

Where We Impress A Date

Morgan: Lucky Chan’s. Alcoholic bubble tea, fusion ramen, and a great setting smack in the heart of Northbridge. Also, it’s our chance to see if our date knows how to use a pair of chopsticks. Who is impressing who now huh?

Where We Work: Labsix

Fletch: Now that we’re touring pretty heavily in the States and spend a ton of time there, we don’t have a permanent studio in Perth, so we find ourselves often using the space at Labsix. It’s a DJ and production school and way back when SLUMBERJACK was just starting Morgs and I both used to teach there.

The Black & Blue EP is out now via Monstercat.
