Live Review: Jamie xx unleashes floor-filling new track 'Idontknow'

Following months of speculation and unreleased track identifications, English producer Jamie xx today releases his dazzling new track 'Idontknow'.

'Idontknow' is Jamie's first solo release since his expansive and highly acclaimed 2015 debut album, In Colour. Serving as an ode to his five years, he gathers sensory elements and builds them up into a heavy-hitting groove. Working on a myriad of breakbeats, tempo switches and fragmented vocal samples, Jamie xx illustrates an enthusiastic wave to the future through his highly attuned style.

Taking to Instagram overnight, Jamie wrote in a caption about the song, "I made Idontknow as an outlet for my frustration over not being able to finish any music for a while."

"I tried to be less precious with my ideas and just let go. I then watched this translate onto the dance floor when I started playing it out last year. Now, we can’t go out to dance and we need an outlet more than ever, I hope you dance to it at home and let go for a moment."

Today, 'Idontknow' finally gets a full release after Jamie made its debut in a set in 2019. The track has taken on a life of its own in clubs and on dancefloors around the world, gathering huge support from the likes of Ben UFO, Four Tet, Caribou, HAAi and Bicep.

Jamie xx's latest single 'Idontknow' is digitally available now via Young Turk/Remote Control Records. Keep your eyes peeled with a 12" coming next month through independent retailers.
