Get to Know: IVEY
Indie-pop five piece IVEY are a band you might be familiar with already, but if not their latest single ‘Midnight’ is the perfect introduction. Picking up steam thanks to sold out shows across the country, love from triple J, going on tour with Lime Cordiale and nominations in both the Gold Coast Music Awards and Queensland Music Awards, the Gold Coast band are making waves with their shimmering, intoxicating brand of indie.
‘Midnight’ is one of IVEY‘s strongest singles yet. According to the band, the track was made for those “late nights and intimate times we share. It is about letting go and giving in to that moment, but holding on to the memories we have created.” Featuring an infectious earworm of a hook, it’s dreamy, dark and alluring in its seductive and rich beats and vocals. Taken from their forthcoming EP on which they worked with acclaimed and award-winning producer Konstantin Kersting (Tones & I, Mallrat, many others), ‘Midnight’ is an exciting glimpse into what IVEY have up their sleeves still.
To celebrate the release, the band are doing a livestream “tour” of sorts, in which they’ve teamed up with Brisbane venues Woolly Mammoth and The Foundry to perform on their respective pages. Before that kicks off tomorrow, we’ve got to know them a little better. Read our chat below, and scroll down to peep their “tour” info!
Who are you?
We’re Ivey. We’re a band from the Gold Coast
How did Ivey come to be?
Lachie, Matt and Dante jammed as kids, found Millie at a party when she was 12, she was a good singer so we were like yeah please be in the band. Matt met Riley in Church band, Matt was like, yeah man get in the band let’s go = Ivey
What are we talking, vibes-wise?
There are our two vibes: 1. Dim lights, purples, blues, reds, projector, bass, strobes, moon, bodies, trap and house music
2. Classy, knits, sunlight (golden hour), chains, that pink from sunset, tongues out, mojitos, Reeboks, funk wave (u know CH)
Tell us more about your single, Midnight?
Midnight is about sex. Everything to do with it really. It’s actually quite exciting talking about sex in such a matter of a fact way over a really sensual beat and bass line. Oddly satisfying.
What can we expect from you in the months ahead?
More music, more content, maybe some remixes, some fun. Just lots more Ivey.
