Live Review: PREMIERE: Sunbather are 'Wide Open' with their dreamy new single

6 May 2020 | 10:11 am | Emma Jones

Brisbane indie duo Sunbather deliver a hypnotic, emotional new single titled 'Wide Open', taken from their forthcoming debut EP.

Brisbane dream pop duo SUNBATHER are here to make your day a little bit more dreamy with their second single, 'Wide Open'. Premiering today on Purple Sneakers, the pair combine heavenly vocal harmonies with spacious guitars and swelling atmospherics to create an intoxicating, spellbinding listen.

All about finding closure, 'Wide Open' is an emotional listen as the duo let you get up close and personal. “The song explores the sense of space that opens up in your soul when you can truly let someone go, without forgetting or devaluing them,” explains vocalist Sally Latter.

Alongside their new single, the duo have also shared accompanying visuals. Taken while temporarily relocating to Myanmar for Latter's work as a humanitarian lawyer, the self-shot footage adds another layer of lush aesthetic to the shimmering new single. We found it hard to adapt at first, but we were shown kindness by many people. Putting the music video together was an exercise in documenting the moments of beauty in a time that was also tough and confronting,” said guitarist Michael Todman.

Sounding like a combination between Two People and Lana Del Rey thanks to Latter's goosebump-inducing vocals and Todman's sparse but hypnotic guitar lines. Doubling as the first song written for their forthcoming EP, Brown BreadSunbather show with 'Wide Open' that they're definitely onto something good here.
