Sydney-born, LA-based artist The Blossom continues to bend the genre of pop in her new single and video for 'Bored Baby Blues'

Sydney-born, LA-based THE BLOSSOM is back with a brand new single this week titled 'Bored Baby Blues'. Produced by Jessica Winter (signed to Warp Publishing, worked with The Horrors, Gorillaz, Fat White Family) during her recent residency at Future Classic's LA studio, The Blossom wastes no time proving why she's one to watch in the rapidly changing pop landscape, and we're thrilled to be premiering this latest track on Purple Sneakers today.

With a strong bedroom pop vibe but infused with shoegaze stylings and an electronic edge, The Blossom's music is many things all at once, and that's never been more evident than on this latest release. Her heavenly and somewhat gritty vocals soar over a skittering, thumping and unpredictable beat throughout 'Bored Baby Blues', making for a wild but captivating listen. It's unlike any song we've heard recently in its dynamic fusion of so many different elements at once, tied together with a masterful pop approach to create chaotic harmony.

Paired a video filmed by her father on the first night she was set free from quarantine after returning home from LA, and tied together thanks to expert editing of Dani Aphrodite, the video encapsulates the underlying restlessness and beauty of 'Bored Baby Blues'.

Speaking of her new single, The Blossom said, “The night I filmed this footage to send to [Dani], I had finished my 2-week solitary quarantine after flying from LA to SYD, and it was the first day I’d been reunited with my family or even left the bedroom. I went for a bike ride and a joy ride with my dad when the sun was setting and he filmed me on his iPhone. As I felt the rush of the wind, hanging out the window of the car like a dog, there was still some sort of lonesome and uncertain energy surrounding me. Nonetheless, I felt “free” for that whole couple of hours we biked around my childhood neighborhood, now quiet and dead-still”.

This is the latest single we've heard ahead of the release of The Blossom's forthcoming EP, Bleeding Buttercup, in which she shares stories on mental health, growing pains and being a young, queer woman of colour through a genre-bending pop lens. It's an exciting addition to the growing catalogue of The Blossom and we can't wait to hear more.
