Live Review: PREMIERE: AYLA kicks off new era in style with heaving new single, 'Go Slow'

Singer-songwriter Ayla returns with a remarkable shift in sound as she kicks off a new era in style in her new single, 'Go Slow'.

It's been a minute since we've heard from singer-songwriter AYLA, but she's not exactly been taking a break. Having been hard at work in the studio honing her craft, she's now emerged this week with the first taste of a whole stack of new material, and we are thrilled to be premiering this very special song today on Purple Sneakers.

Titled 'Go Slow', it's a change of pace for the Brisbane artist, marking the beginning of a self-described "new era". Having worked with none other than Peking Duk's Reuben Styles, 'Go Slow' is anything but slow with a rapid, shifting bed of beats that takes sudden twists and turns while providing the perfect foundation for Ayla's absolutely stunning voice to soar above. The heaving synths carry that quintessential Peking Duk sound, but merged with the emotional intensity of Ayla's own creative flair, 'Go Slow' is a full-bodied, powerful listen from start to finish.

Ayla said of the new single, "I'm very excited to be releasing again and really happy with this track, so really looking forward to having it out in the world!"

"This one is with a collaborator who I was really lucky to get to work with, Reuben Styles. It was great to work with Reuben, bouncing off each other and seeing how he evolved the track as we went along. The first verse came about when a friend of mine was sick, but she didn't want to get it checked out or to find out what it was (which turned out to be a blood disease, but she's now doing very well). From there the song evolved and took on its own meaning - I think a lot of my songs do that; they start with an idea, and then morph into an imaginary storyline, which can be interpreted in different ways."

At just 24 now, Ayla begins the next chapter having first emerged while still in high school. It's a remarkable shift in sound but one we cannot get enough of. Here's hoping there's plenty more like this still to come!

'Go Slow' is out Thursday, June 4th. Pre-save here.
