"Let’s make the dance music of the future inclusive": Aluna challenges dance music industry in open letter
Aluna has taken to social media to share an open letter calling for a more inclusive dance music industry for all.
One half of ALUNAGEORGE, Aluna has recently embarked on a solo career. She's released two excellent singles (including 'Body Pump' which we said was one of the best releases of that week) and is set to capitalise on the great success she's already seen as part of the duo by letting her voice, her experiences and her passion take centre stage.
Further to her music, Aluna has also recently shared experiences she has had in dance music dealing with racism and sexism. She bravely took to social media to share these experiences in light of the music industry as a whole grappling with what it can do to dismantle systems of racial oppression within it. Now, she's gone one step further and has penned an open letter to the "dance music industry" calling for a more inclusive future for all.
Sharing the letter via Instagram, Aluna has already received support from the likes of A-Trak, Diplo, Dillon Francis, Icona Pop, DJ Snake, Anna Lunoe and many more.
In the caption, she wrote, "When I started looking at all the challenges I face being a black woman making dance I realized I wanted to do more than just create a space for myself - I want all black people to know that the genre of Dance is their heritage and they should feel included and encouraged to create under that banner by expanding the genre to be culturally and racially inclusive."
