Live Review: PREMIERE: PNK FME disarms his demons with 'Firing Rifle'

21 July 2020 | 9:52 am | Emma Jones

Adelaide's PNK FME has been slowly picking up speed over recent years thanks to his steady output of introspective, emotional and dark electronica, but this week he's set to kick things into gear with a whole stack of news. Not only does he have a brand new single out this week which we are thrilled to be premiering on Purple Sneakers, he also has announced his debut EP is on the way as well.

Titled 'Firing Rifle', this new single from the South Australian creative is another late-night, brooding cut that sees him once again turn inward as he trawls the depths of his psyche. Laying it all, PNK FME exposes his inner turmoil, pairing bass-y beats with emotionally-fraught vocals to create a powerful examination of one's deepest, darkest moments — disarming them in the process. It's a seriously impressive step up for the producer, leaning into his strengths as he infuses heavily effected vocals, percussive-led production and stuttered synth jabs.

PNK FME said of the new single, “‘Firing Rifle’ is my explanation of my turmoils and things I face daily... things that no one feels as it’s mostly invisible. It is silent, it is scary, it is overwhelming, it is uncomfortable and it is fucked."

“While working on ‘Firing Rifle’ I had enough of the battle and I was ready to relinquish my spirit."
