Live Review: PREMIERE: Swaré channels disco flavours for his latest jam, 'Only You'

22 July 2020 | 1:00 pm | Emma Jones

Sydney singer, songwriter and producer Swaré returns with a disco-infused banger that doubles as a call to arms to believe in yourself.

Sydney singer, songwriter and producer SWARÉ has made his return with one of his slickest cuts yet. Titled 'Only You', this single doubles as his second release for 2020, following on from the bold and confident 'Gatsby', and sees the artist delve even deeper into the world of production with a smooth, indie-pop sound with disco sensibilities.

For fans of Jamiroquai or Miami Horror, 'Only You' is a funk-laden, disco-infused call to arms to believe in yourself. It's at once nostalgic and future-facing, with just enough retro influence to keep you happily reminiscing while still showing Swaré as an act to watch. Slick synths, a driving beat and an infectious hook swirl and combine to create a totally liberating dance floor filler, perfectly designed to shake off your winter blues and take control of your own destiny.

Swaré said of the new single, "The concept for ‘Only You’ came about when a handful of negative people were surrounding me in my inner circle, and not believing in my journey, or what I was doing. It was like almost everything in their eyes was boring, uninteresting and uninspiring. Even the stars and space were boring to them, which seemed so ridiculous to me.”

"When the lyrics say "It’s only me and you’re back at the s start," I’m referring to how those people will be stuck at the start of their lives, not making anything of themselves, whilst I’m trying to go places. And then, "Only you can set you free" is referring to how it’s up to the individual to change their life, and to choose their path.”
