Legendary French band PHOENIX have shared their first single in three years titled 'Identical'. Taken from the soundtrack of a forthcoming Sofia Coppola film, On The Rocks, the single is the first of a new album also on the way which marks the fifth film collaboration between the band and iconic filmmaker. The lengthy collaborative history makes a whole lot of sense given Coppola is married to Phoenix frontman, Thomas Mars, with the pair making up what might be one of the coolest couples in the indie universe.

In a live video just a few weeks ago, Mars told fans of the new single, teasing its existence alongside a new album as well. The band then further teased fans with a snippet posted to social media this week. Now, we have the song itself which only takes a few seconds to confirm the wait was well and truly worth it for the Phoenix faithful among us.

Complete with Mars' iconic vocals, the track is a straight up bop. It's upbeat, fun and catchy, with an earworm hook, heavenly harmonies and a persistent beat to underpin the song as it starts to really lift. It's the first we've heard from the band since 2017's Ti Amo, but it feels like no time has passed at all with the band picking right back up where they left off in their quintessential indie pop sound.

Released alongside a simple video which shows Phoenix-branded merchandise being set on fire, it's an intriguing accompaniment for the song and one that has us eager to learn more. On The Rocks is out this October, is directed by Sofia Coppola's brother Roman, and is set to star Bill MurrayRashida Jones and Marlon Wayans.
