RÜFÜS DU SOL share uplifting new remix of Lastlings’ ‘No Time’
Pioneering Aussie trio RÜFÜS DU SOL don’t often lend their hands to remixes. In fact, prior to last week, they had only shared a small number over the past few years for the likes of ODESZA, Foals, The Presets and a couple more. So it was a surprise last week then, when they released a remix of Lastlings‘ brooding single, ‘No Time’, but a very welcome one at that proving the wait was more than worth it.
RÜFÜS DU SOL and Lastlings are hardly strangers, with the latter jumping on the mammoth SOLACE world tour throughout 2019 with the electronic trio. Also signed to RÜFÜS DU SOL‘s tastemaker label, Rose Avenue Records, the band have served an integral role in developing and mentoring the sibling duo, becoming very close in the process. It makes sense in this case that their remix of the duo’s latest single would be as brilliant as it is. Clocking in at nearly seven minutes, this remix more than stands up to the original. Complete with an urgent, propulsive beat that underpins the track, atmospherics and synth jabs collide to create an uplifting but meditative odyssey. Even when it threatens to take off completely, the heaviness of it is palpable as the trio effortlessly navigate the bass-heavy rework. Readymade for late night dance floors or dark clubs (whenever we’ll be able to return to them), it’s a release that harks back to an earlier era in the RUFUS sound, proving they are still able to deliver club-focused heaters when they see fit.
Lastlings said of the single, “‘No Time’ is one of our favourite songs from our upcoming album, so when we heard our friends and mentors RÜFÜS DU SOL were going to remix it, we were so excited about what they would create. The remix is an amazing journey and we absolutely love it! Eagerly waiting for the moment we’re back together moving to it on a packed dance floor.”
RÜFÜS DU SOL added, “A few years ago when we first met Josh and Amy, they played us the demo for ‘No Time’ among others – we loved it – that bunch of demos was one of the things that pushed us to start the label we’d been talking about for a long time. We’re stoked to be able to put our spin on an already incredible track!”
