Live Review: PREMIERE: FLUIR announces long-awaited debut EP with uplifting new single, 'Same Flame'

16 September 2020 | 1:03 pm | Emma Jones

FLUIR is set to make the rest of 2020 hers with a brand new single out, and her long awaited debut EP on the way.

We've had our eyes on FLUIR for a while now. Her unique fusion of pop and electronic has always had us hooked since the very early days, and with each and every release, her considered approach means she adds another shimmering and vibrant addition to her growing catalogue of emotive dance-based bops. Now, she returns in 2020 with one of her finest singles yet in 'Same Flame' which we are thrilled to be premiering today, as well as some very good news for fans.

Coming alongside the premiere of 'Same Flame', Purple Sneakers can also exclusively reveal FLUIR's long awaited debut EP, Just Us, is finally on its way. Set for release November 6th, 'Same Flame' is the first taste we have from this EP, and already our excitement is high. Featuring ghostly, ethereal vocals, a driving dance beat and tropical elements sprinkled throughout, 'Same Flame' is an uplifting, euphoric new single that makes us so desperately miss packed and sweaty dancefloors.

Speaking exclusively to Purple Sneakers, FLUIR wrote to us via email, saying, "I'm super excited to finally be releasing my debut EP 'Just Us'!

"Over the past 12 months, I've been focusing on developing my music production skills, attending and graduating from Liveschool's music production course in Sydney. My new single 'Same Flame' is a result of that, being my first track entirely self-produced.

"The writing process for 'Same Flame' was a bit of a blur. I remember cooking dinner one evening with Spotify playing in the background. It wasn't until a new song started playing that I'd never heard before which somehow unlocked the concept for 'Same Flame'. Instantly, I could hear all the melodies, sounds and mood of the track inside of my head, it was all there right in front of me. It was a strange experience because I've never written that way, usually I have to be sitting down in front of the piano or guitar to be able to ignite an idea. I ran from the kitchen to my laptop and laid down the song as quickly as possible before the idea dissipated. The lyrics came together really quickly also, I don't recall consciously writing them, it's like they fell out onto the paper in front of me. It was only once I'd finished that I realised what the song was about, a reflection on past friendships/relationships that irreversibly become a part of you.

"First and foremost, I wanted the EP to shine a light on the highs and lows of creativity. At the time of writing the EP, I wasn't yet where I wanted to be with my music in terms of 'success'. When I looked more closely at what I defined as 'successful' however, I realised that success is an ever-moving target governed by ego, shifting with every key milestone reached. I felt like I was driving myself mad and losing sight of why I started writing music in the first place. It wasn't until I wrote the title track 'Just Us' - the most vulnerable song I've ever written - that I felt my perception had been reacquilibrated and I'd found my love for music once more."
