Live Review: Kaytranada remixes Dua Lipa's 'Don't Start Now'

14 September 2020 | 10:45 am | Emma Jones

Kaytranada is the latest producer to remix a Dua Lipa single, stepping up to the plate to remix the juggernaut hit 'Don't Start Now'.

Even though she just released a 17-track remix album titled Club Future Nostalgia, it seems there's even more still left in the DUA LIPA tank for 2020. Off the back of the pop juggernaut that was her latest album, Future Nostalgia, released back in March, she teamed up with The Blessed Madonna for a seamless dance reimagination featuring some exceptional remixes from the likes of YaejiJayda GMark Ronson, Joe GoddardMissy ElliottHorse Meat Disco and Madonna and Gwen Stefani (plus many others). Now, she's shared another new remix this time courtesy of Kaytranada.

The song in question which has been remixed by the Canadian dance lord is none other than 'Don't Start Now'. Released just under a year ago, 'Don't Start Now' is one of the biggest releases of the last 12 months, reaching number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming a song of the summer for us lucky folks in the Western hemisphere and spearheaded a commercially massive year for Dua Lipa. The song has already been remixed by Yaeji on Club Future Nostalgia, and proves a major highlight on a record full of so many, so it is an interesting addition to the Future Nostalgia-era output that seems to be the gift that keeps on giving.

Employing some vintage Kaytra sounds, the producer takes the pop hit into a downtempo, bass-driven, groove focused space. It's worlds away from the anthemic, uplifting original, but holds its own as its house sounds underpin Dua's now iconic vocals. It's deep, unhurried and warm, and is making us hopeful this isn't the last time these two come together on a track.

Recently, Kaytranada released an instrumental version of his acclaimed 2019 album, BUBBA, and released a brand new single titled 'Look Easy' featuring Lucky Daye. Listen to the remix below:
