Western Australian indie pop band and real life angels DULCIE returned this month with their brand new single, 'Dust'. The epitome of sunshine in a song, 'Dust' is a slice of easy, carefree indie goodness, complete with soaring singalong hooks, a pounding drum beat to get your heart racing and glowing guitars. It's also yet another winner from the four piece who are quickly picking up steam as one of the country's most promising emerging acts, with a growing resume behind them including constantly touring since 2018 and sharing stages with acts such as G Flip, San Cisco, Spacey Jane, Polish Club, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets as well as making appearances at BIGSOUND and Groovin The Moo.

Of their new single, Dulcie said, “It’s fair to say that most of us have been short-sighted going into things before. There never seems to be any red flags in the beginning, it’s exciting and easy to dive in head first. ‘Dust’ is a song about realising something isn’t what you thought and as time goes on you lose touch of what it was that was good for you in the first place.”

Comrpised of Ashleigh Carr-White, Timieka Denton, Saskia Brittain and Madison Hanley, the band uniquely interchange between three vocalists which adds further depth to their sound and maintains their "All in this together" ethos. Infusing so many different influences and inspirations, they at once infuse these with their own unique flair to create a lane entirely their own while also rejecting traditional genre constraints in the process. And, while their 2020 probably didn't exactly go to plan just like everyone else's, they've continued to make the best of their situation, even managing to announce tour dates in WA with their own headline dates and alongside Great Gable. As this year draws to a close, they are already kicking major goals in 2021 as well with an enormous national tour set for February and March supporting none other than Ocean Alley.

So, with all this in mind, there's probably no better time than the present to get to know Dulcie a little better. Check out their single 'Dust' here, and our quick chat with them below:

Who are you?

We are a 4 piece indie-pop girl band from Perth, WA.

How did Dulcie come to be?

Saskia (guitarist/vocals) and Timieka (bass/vocals) are childhood friends who grew up together in Denmark. They moved up to Perth at the start of 2018 to study a music artist course at WAAPA which is where they met Ash (piano/vocals). We decided to start a band and began the search for a drummer. Ash knew Madi (drummer) from High School and previous music projects, she had also just started WAAPA and turned out to be the perfect fit for the band. We started gigging mid 2018, sometimes 3 gigs a week and began to network around the Perth music scene. We found these venues to open such a welcoming space for us to share our music, which encouraged us to keep working on our performance and writing songs. The name ‘Dulcie’ comes from Ash’s great grandmothers name who used to sing as well, she suggested it at a rehearsal and it stuck ever since.

What are we talking, vibes-wise?

We don’t take ourselves too seriously and have a lot of fun making and performing our music. The vibe we share is light and bright and we hope that people feel that in our music. We’ve never really defined our image but naturally we’re drawn to funky retro looks and warm colours.

Tell us more about your new single, ‘Dust’?

Sometimes we can blind ourselves to what is good for us and it’s very easy to rush into situations when we’re lost in the thrill of it. ‘Dust’ is an anthem about taking back the right to your own happiness and learning from your mistakes. The main idea for the song was written while Ash was driving and rediscovered earlier this year in the archives of her voice memos. After workshopping and collaborating to finish the arrangement we recorded it, and now it’s finally out in the world!

What can we expect from you in the months ahead?

We’re very grateful to be living in Perth right now amongst the craziness that is 2020. We’re definitely going to be making the most of being able to play live shows here in WA over the next few months and you can catch us supporting Ocean Alley on their national tour next year! We’ve got a lot more music in the works so you can keep an eye out for that too!

Where can we hear more from you?

You can check us out on Spotify, YouTube and most streaming platforms. We’re also on social media like Instagram and Facebook under @dulcie.music . Thanks for the love and support!
