After releasing her impressive debut independent single, 'The Feeling', Melbourne's m8riarchy returns this week with another spellbinding new release. Titled 'Cry', the single is premiering on Purple Sneakers today and marks another exciting fusion of pop-leaning vocals and forward-thinking electronic music to make something utterly her own.

In an email to Purple Sneakers, m8riarchy said of the single, "'Cry' is a really special one for me. It's a song I had on the back burner for a while. I ended up showing the demo to Simona Castricum who is a dear friend and longtime collaborator. Her contribution - programming drums and additional synths - was the missing piece for this emotional puzzle.”

Indeed, the programmed drums and additional synths provide a level of depth, while lighter atmospherics and gentle synths swirl above. The eclectic, shifting and peculiar arrangement lends itself to underpin the song while m8riarchy's sublime vocals ring out above. Moving into a soulful, RnB-influenced moment in the hook, 'Cry' is made up of so many different parts all working together in harmony to create an earnest, deliberate and ultimately cathartic song.

m8riarchy explained further, saying, “Crying is catharsis and this song is an expression of gratitude for every tear. The notion of ‘your house is not a home for me’ is my expression of making peace with solitude in these vulnerable moments.”
