Live Review: PREMIERE: Stellie paints the night in new 'Colours' video

1 October 2020 | 11:01 am | Emma Jones

Stellie brings her dark, cinematic song 'Colours' to life with a mysterious and alluring new video.

Following on from the release of her debut EP, and selling out her first ever headline hometown show, Stellie returns this week with an official video for her absolutely gorgeous song, 'Colours'. Bringing the song's brooding mystery to life, the 'Colours' video, premiering today on Purple Sneakers, adds even more depth to Stellie's already refined artistic vision.

Evoking imagery from the sometimes-sickening glamour of modern LA, Stellie takes to the harsh streets and neon-lit bars and clubs in this video. Tapping into the addictive and intoxicating allure of a dangerous love, the dramatic song and its dark lyrics are amplified as she takes you by the hand, through the beaded curtains and into the night. It's another hypnotic slice of Stellie's unique sound as she fuses pop with golden era Hollywood glamour and cinematic 70s nostalgia, brought into the modern day with her forward-thinking flourishes and sensibilities.

Stellie said of the clip, "When I initially started writing ‘Colours’, I just had one lyric in mind - ‘I’m too old to die young, so I don’t want to die at all’. That line is really what kickstarted the whole mood of the song. It's almost that feeling of being too scared to waste any time, because life is too short and you want to make the most of every second. I wanted to emphasise the darkness that this song emulates when it came to creating the visuals. This is why the whole clip was filmed at night time, with my face really only being lit by different coloured neons. I really want the audience to feel the lyrics as much as they can hear them."
