We Need You: Support Independent Music Media!

18 February 2021 | 1:03 pm | Staff Writer

On Thursday, 18th February 2021, Facebook made the decision to ban publishers and users in Australia from sharing or viewing any news articles on its platform. This decision was made in response to the Australian government’s proposed media bargaining laws.

This is a product of a fight over millions of dollars by large corporations who don’t give a sh*t about culture. OUR scene is about spreading music and stories that impact positively on people’s lives. We are the cannon fodder caught in the crossfire and it’s time to say enough is enough.

It’s time for our readers to stand up and show their support for what we do. It’s easy. Consume the music media that enhance your life and connect. Sign up to mailing lists and tell your friends who you know enjoy our content to do the same.

If you’re on our list already we thank you for that, but have a think about other publications you might read but not be connected with and friends in your network who may love our content and content from other great music journalists.

Music media exists to tell the stories of artists, turn listeners into fans and fans into communities. We bring you news, new music, interviews and more content, and connect you to the songs and artists we all love. We pride ourselves on being able to respectfully, carefully and compellingly create and nurture communities around different types of music, expanding its reach and connecting it with new audiences.

It’s not about just us, it’s about the whole Australian music media community. Please take the time to click through, follow, sign up, add to favourites… and most importantly discover some great new content. You might even discover something new.

Thank you again for your support over the last 15 years of Purple Sneakers and we look forward to being around for the next 15. F**k Facebook.
