Live Review: Middle Name Dance Band release reimagined songs on 'Lovers Featuring' EP

Middle Name Dance Band have unveiled their new EP which features reimagined versions of two singles lifted from their 2020 release.

Middle Name Dance Band have unveiled their new EP, Lovers Featuring. Consisting of two songs lifted from their 2020 release, Middle Name Dance Tracks Vol. 2, this time around the songs have been reimagined with vocals courtesy of Wallace and Natalie Slade respectively.

Wallace works her magic on 'Weekend Love Chant', adding to the heady romanticism of the original with her soulful vocals positively floating atop the jazz-electronic-soul infused goodness of MNDB. It's totally gorgeous as Wallace swoons and sighs, breathing a breezy, warm and uplifting air into the song.

'Love Bite' receives the Natalie Slade treatment, and with a more dominating presence, her vocals ground the rambunctious original. Soaring over the brass section, the clanging and crashing percussion and that bass line that will make you strut within an instant, Slade's take adds depth and further feeling to the already expansive bliss of the exisiting version.

While this isn't the first time the trio have tapped vocalists, having worked with Merinda Dias-Jayasinha and Roman Albert in the past, this is the first time the band has had a full vocal addition to a reimagining of a song. And despite us having great love for the original versions of all MNDB releases thus far, the added emotion and story on both of these songs does really pull you in. Custom made for the romantics out there, Lovers Featuring is as blissful as walking in the sunny park one afternoon, or a boogie on a love-filled dancefloor.
