The Avalanches announce Sydney and Brisbane tour dates

30 March 2021 | 12:03 pm | Mack Perry

Long awaited news of The Avalanches tour has finally been unveiled with the duo announcing Brisbane and Sydney dates in April.

The Avalanches for Summer(ish) Sounds

Fresh off the release for their third album We Will Always Love You, Melbourne sampling stars The Avalanches have announced shows to support their December 2020 release We Will Always Love You. Current shows include: Friday 23 April at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne; the previously announced Friday 30 April at Riverstage, Brisbane; and three dates in late May at Sydney's Enmore Theatre. The 26th and 27th of May have already sold out, with a third and final show on May 29 just announced!

Sampling—the reuse, recycling, and reworking of elements of previously-recorded sounds--builds the foundation of The Avalanche’s work, weaving soul, disco, classic rock, and other specks of nostalgia into rich sonic mosaics. The pathos is evoked on stage as well, and the group dynamic and vibrant live sets became a must-see, complete with an arsenal of instruments including samplers, analogue keyboards, turntables, bass guitar, drum kit, and MIDI-controlled effects.
The Avalanche’s third effort was released in December 2020. The 25-track release boasts an all-star army of guests and collaborators, a reflection on their talent and ability to unite artists from across the musical spectrum. Who would have ever thought Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo, The Clash guitarist Mick Jones, and South Florida rapper Denzel Curry would all be mentioned in the same sentence, much less star on the same studio album?

“When we’re sampling very, very old, recorded music… it’s almost like summoning spirits… it’s just a beautiful flow of energy,” explained Robbie Chater, who comprises one half of the electronic duo alongside Tony Di Blasi, and also served as executive producer for the album.

Expect The Avalanches’ return to touring to be in full force. Tickets are live now via Secret Sounds. Considering the massive demand, we wouldn’t be surprised if they take the opportunity to extend the tour and play some more shows.
