Live Review: Milan Ring returns with single, 'BS' and supporting tour dates

30 April 2021 | 11:15 am | Parry Tritsiniotis

Milan Ring is back with her first single of 2021, featuring rising London based rapper Che Lingo and has announced a trio of shows.

Milan Ring has today released her new single, 'BS' featuring rising London-based rapper Che Lingo. It's the singer, rapper, guitarist, producer, mix engineer's first release of 2021 and its ethos reigns as simple as its title. “Life keeps throwing us BS but how are we going to deal with it?” says Milan on its creation, a sentiment definitely set to resonate with listeners in this uncertain climate.

With production contributions from Grammy-nominated producer J.LBS of Anderson Paak and Kendrick Lamar acclaim, MYBOYROACH (think Kid Cudi and ScHoolboy Q) and Sydney's very own BLESSED, the track's global feel is no surprise. A criminally smooth bass line combines perfectly with crisp guitar licks and that classic, confident, personality fuelled Milan Ring vocal delivery. Milan sounds at home as she leans into a melodic rap lane, moulding sounds, influences and global tastes and as always, owning it as her own.

While a total vibe, the track's staying power lays in its powerful visual direction. It's single artwork, choreographed by the BINDI BOSSES, features the Mudra (Indian dance symbol) for Aarala, which refers to drinking poison, reflecting the song’s themes of “self-sabotage and ego-driven behaviour taking the form of anger, drinking and gambling”, explains Milan Ring. These concepts are perfectly couple with the track's music video. Shot in Sydney and directed by bou the video tackles positive reactions to the chaos that life provides. With aesthetic at its core, the video features a stunning arty backdrop, roaming text and clean, quick powerful cuts.

Alongside the single Milan Ring has announced her first headline shows of 2021, A Trio of Shows at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on June 9 supported by Liyah Knight and Melbourne’s The Max Watts on July 2nd supported by POOKIE. With a full band at her disposal, excellent supports and this live suited single, the shows are set to be a total moment.
