Live Review: Little Simz releases new single 'Woman' featuring Cleo Sol

7 May 2021 | 10:14 am | Parry Tritsiniotis

Little Simz has released 'Woman' featuring Cleo Sol, Hot on the heels of the scorching, 6-minute call to arms that was 'Introvert'.

Kendrick Lamar. Nas. Jay Z. Kanye West. Lauryn Hill. Little Simz is gearing up to add her name to the list of artists with classic hip-hop albums with another single from her forthcoming album, 'Sometimes I Might Be Introvert', adding even more hype to the highly anticipated project. Hot on the heels of the scorching, 6-minute call to arms that was 'Introvert', 'Woman' featuring Cleo Sol acts as the perfect follow up, an intimate ode to female empowerment.

'Woman' is a soulful love letter to women around the world. Laid back drums, soulful chords and Cleo Sol's perfectly ghostly guest vocals lay the bed for Little Simz clever wordplay and introspective bars. Consistently stellar lines set the scene throughout every verse cleverly painting the ethos of the track in a seemingly unforced yet provoking way. Of the song, Simz says, "I love it when I see women doing their thing and looking flawless; I’m here for that! It’s empowering, it’s inspiring; I wanted to say thank you and I wanted to celebrate them."

If that song alone isn't enough to get you on board the Little Simz train, she also steps behind the camera for her directorial debut, taking the reigns over the sumptuous video. With it she creates an aesthetically gorgeous utopia. Set in a rambling country estate, shots skip between unapologetically powerful women including, Jourdan Dunn, Joy Crookes and Denai Moore, getting shit done and running the god damn world. Every woman in the video has a personal relationship to Simz, whether her own sisters, long time friends or inspirations, they all add to the powerful imagery of the video, a united front of sisterhood.
