Live Review: Gordon Koang releases new single, 'Coronavirus' and announces new double A-side release.
One of Australia's most adored artists, Gordon Koang has today announced a new 12” maxi-single release titled Coronavirus / Disco.
One of Australia's most adored artists, Gordon Koang has today announced a new 12” maxi-single release titled Coronavirus / Disco via Music in Exile set to be released on the 4th of August. He's also today dropped the projects lead single, 'Coronavirus'. Following from his 2020 Unity album, he keeps the project's ethos, sharing messages of peace, love and positivity.
The tracks are inspired by Koang's personal experiences within the global pandemic in July 2020. As Melbourne went into lockdown he resided with his cousin Paul, and Paul's thom (a four stringed guitar like instrument). After gaining permanent residency to Australia, and overcoming border closures they visited their home family in Uganda, witnessing the effects on the pandemic on their heritage nation. It was after 2 weeks of hotel quarantine upon their return that the release was put together, a result of studio sessions at Button Pusher in Preston, Melbourne.
On the creation of the release and a general message to audiences during this time, Koang states, '“My condolences to you, my audience in lockdown. We are all suffering from coronavirus. Let us stand firm and be strong. Let us look after each other, until the time comes when God brings us together. I give my condolences to people who have died of coronavirus, in aged care and disability. We are heartbroken for everyone. Let us take it easy, and pray in our houses, all around the world. If you believe in God, pray to the God you believe in, and they will help you. God will give us the chance to go back to normal and open all events. Even if it is a bad time now, there will be a change and it will be a good time for us. Thank you to everyone.”
