Thandi Phoenix returns with Paul Mac produced, ‘Overdrive’
Thandi Phoenix is a brooding pop icon, with track after track combining to create one of Australia’s most anthem fuelled discography ever. Today, the Sydney/Eora based vocalist has released her new single, ‘Overdrive’ produced and co – written by dance pioneer Paul Mac. ‘Overdrive’ closely follows from her previous release, ‘Count Me Out’, with the two tracks combining to mark a new era for the already universally adored artist, one channeling creative freedom and elation.
‘Overdrive’ moulds together the sonic worlds of Phoenix and legendary producer Paul Mac. What’s created is an overlapping Venn diagram, packed to the brim with big room dance, emotion, and raw positive energy. Her vocal tones sit perfectly above the brooding, late night club beat, moulding together for a track that’s equal parts slick and danceable. Where ‘Count Me Out’ directed Thandi in a new UKG sound, ‘Overdrive’ takes those dance sensibilities to a bigger scale, combining her incredible ability to resonate with crowds via her massive live track record with incredible song writing skills. This holistic approach to song creation makes her stand out from the crowd.
On the creation of the track, Thandi Phoenix stated, “Overdrive is a playful song about seduction, desire & temptation. The all – consuming kind of attraction th at just takes over and has you acting in ways you thought you wouldn’t. It was a really fun day in the studio writing this one with Paul Mac + Handsome. I’ve been a fan of Paul’s since highschool so it was always a dream to finally work with him and I love the hypnotic dance track we created.”
