So, the Vengaboys have covered Charli XCX's '1999' featuring Troye Sivan. What resulted, is an absolute cringefest from top to bottom. '1999' was initially written by two of the best songwriters in the contemporary music world to confess their love, admiration and nostalgia for the 1990s. Now, the Vengaboys, as epic as they've been in the past have put their own spin on the track, which isn't really a spin at all, more so just a cheesy, sugar pop cover of the original.

1999 was the year the Vengaboys dominated the world with their famous summer anthems: ‘Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!’ and ‘We’re Going To Ibiza!’. Now, the washed up Dutch four piece are rallying their fans, to go back to 1999! In their promo video for the track, they state, “Full of Disasters, the 21st Century has given us awful problems from COVID to CROCS!" continuing on to say, "It’s time to bring back some fun and happiness.” They also make a comment on the state of cancel culture, wow very woke.

Speaking of the single, Robin states: “We never stopped spreading love and fun. But this new century is not exactly cooperative. We feel a responsibility to bring the good times back!” Donny agrees: “For us, the 90’s never stopped anyway. But we do notice that a lot of people are weighed down by a heavy mood and it is kind of striking, that this is so since the new millennium. I’m just saying…”.
