“‘Leave It All Behind’ is a dreamlike bubble that was written about the pull of the water, country and moving away from the city,”
Naarm/Melbourne based soul artist and Noonga woman Bumpy has today shared her latest single, the infectious and hypnotic Leave It All Behind.
The single follows her debut single via Astral People Recordings Return Home, a transportive, orchestral driven ode to home which reflects on the people, places and connections that make people feel grounded.
Bumpy is the lead vocalist of neo-soul outfit Squid Nebula and emerged as a solo act in late 2020. Her debut piece of solo music Falling drew national and international critical accalim and support. She's already supported the likes of Hiatus Kaiyote, and performed at festivals including Rabbits Eat Lettuce, Strawberry Fields, Grampians Music Festival as well as being a part of VIVID Live for Astral People's Birthday at the Sydney opera house alongside Yussef Dayes, Midlife, Jitwam and more.
Her musical footprint lives up to the hype of her career highlights so far, with her latest uplifting effort Leave It All Behind a perfect representation of her impeccable artistry. The track opens with samples from nature, driven by the whisper of lapping waves, before a sultry backbeat led by lightly tapped keys and percussion combine perfectly with her commanding yet silky vocals. The track is a gentle reminder to remember to take a moment and breathe, with its melodic elements suspending time and forcing the listener to appreciate the things around them.
“‘Leave It All Behind’ is a dreamlike bubble that was written about the pull of the water, country and moving away from the city,” Bumpy shares.
"Inspired by a camping trip on GunaiKurnai country after many lockdowns in Naarm, it romanticises the longing for simplicity and stillness. It has become a good reminder to step out of the pace of the city, slow down and hit pause every now and then.”
