Cardi B has reflected on the major backlash she received following her performance of WAP with Megan Thee Stallion at the 2021 Grammy Awards.

Taking to Twitter, the Bodak Yellow rapper reminded followers about the harassment she received after the divisive performance - particularly from conservatives.

“Y’all remember when the FCC almost sued me [because] I performed WAP at the Grammys? What about when all the Republicans literally harassed me over it? On the news every day… Y’all remember? Oooohhh [because] I do,” she tweeted.

According to the FCC [Federal Communications Commission], more than 1000 people complained about Cardi and Megan Thee Stallion’s Grammy performance, slamming their duet as “obscene” and “pornographic".

Cardi responded to the complaints, hitting back at naysayers on Twitter: “The Grammys are PG, that means parental guidance, meaning [it’s] your job – like it is to mine to my child – to monitor what they watch," she Tweeted in response to the haters in March 2021.

"My performance was around 10 pm on a Sunday. Your child should be in bed ready for school the next day. Why are they up watching WAP?”

She went on to slam conservatives who compared her performance to that of Dr Seuss' children's books, including the frontman of Christian rock band Skillet, who compared the Grammys performance to the "evil" books.

“We’re living in a world right now where there are certain Dr. Seuss books that you cannot sell on eBay. They are just too much for anybody to even be allowed to buy – it’s too evil,” he said at the time.

"But you can and must applaud the sexual degradation of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion simulating sex together on the Grammys."

“This is the perfect example. You must celebrate [it] – in fact, if you don’t celebrate it, you’re actually a bad person… and you kinda don’t love people.”

Cooper continued: “The question is, who is going to define what is good, and who is gonna define what is evil? Every dictator in history says that what they were doing was good. That’s what they believe.”

Following the comments, Cardi hit back, "Conservatives [have] been making viral tweets comparing WAP to the banning of some of Dr Seuss books as if there’s any correlations between the two… Well, I can DEFINITELY tell some of ya ONLY read Dr Seuss books [because] ya mind lacks comprehension.”

Cardi later addressed the controversy in her 2021 Lizzo collaboration, Rumors, rapping in her verse: “Last time I got freaky, the FCC sued me / But I’mma keep doing what I wanna do / ‘Cause all the rumors are, all the rumors are true.”
