Danny Brown Says He's Checking Into Rehab: 'I'm Going To Get Help'

"Alcohol is something I need to be done with cause it makes me hurt the people that care the most.”

More Danny Brown More Danny Brown

Rapper Danny Brown has revealed that he is seeking treatment for alcohol addiction, saying it's something he "needs to be done with".

It comes amid antics on a recent episode of The Danny Brown Show, where the Detroit rapper claimed he had turned in his Quaranta album two years ago, but alleged Warp Records was dragging their feet in releasing the project.

He then urged fans to tweet his label and manager, Dart Parker, using the hashtags #FreeDanny and #FreeQuaranta.

Now, it seems the Lean Beef Patty rapper has backtracked on his comments, blaming the outburst on alcohol.

“Aye chill out with all the [Free Danny] shit,” he told fans in a tweet on Tuesday. “I was drunk and talking shit and that’s why my dumb ass is checking into treatment tomorrow got nothing but love for dart and warp so chill out the album is mastered.”

When a fan pointed out that Brown has told fans to “harass” his manager, he replied: “That’s why alcohol is something I need to be done with cause it makes me hurt the people that care the most.”

It's not the first time Brown has spoken about his struggle with alcohol. While performing at SXSW Festival earlier this month, he said that "getting drunk" and "smoking blunts all day" was "getting old".

“At the end of the day, I’m 42 years old,” he told the crowd at SXSW that abusing alcohol and drugs had sent him to a "dark place".

"This shit is getting old. I will say, man, I know y’all way younger than me so everybody have y’all fun … [but] shit could get dark. I got into a really dark place with it so now I’m gonna go get help.”

“Honestly, my dumb ass supposed to been gone, but I’m broke so I gotta do shows to take my ass in, so shoutout to Dr. Martens.”

He added that he also feels "bad" for encouraging drug use in his music.

“I’ma go do my lil time, but I will say this,” he added. “I made so many songs about doing drugs … sometimes I feel bad about that shit … if I f****d your life up, I’m sorry.”

The news comes following Brown and JPEGMAFIA sharing their full-length collab project, Scaring the Hoes.

We wish Danny Brown all the best in his recovery and hope that he will return to music stronger and healthier than ever before.
