American singer-songwriter David Kushner has pulled out of his appearances at Spilt Milk Festival and accompanying Australian headline tour dates, citing “unforeseen circumstances” for the cancellations.

Spilt Milk festival organisers posted a statement this morning (2 November), writing on Instagram, “We found out this morning that David Kushner has unfortunately had to cancel his entire Australian Tour. We’re prioritising finding an act to replace him but wanted to let you all know as soon as we heard. Will keep you updated.”

Sharing a post of his own, just minutes later, Kushner wrote, “Due to unforeseen circumstances— I regrettably have to cancel my upcoming Australian and New Zealand tour. You all mean so much to me, and I cannot wait to see you in the foreseeable future.”

Following a string of singles released in 2021, Kushner went viral on TikTok in 2022 with the track Miserable Man, which charted in the Top 40 in Australia, Ireland, Norway, New Zealand and the UK.

Mr Forgettable, his follow-up single, also charted in Ireland and the UK, but it wasn’t until he released Daylight earlier this year that Kushner hit the Top 10 in numerous countries, including Australia, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Switzerland and the UK. The track also got to #11 on the Billboard Global 200.

Before the July announcement that he was coming to Australia, Kushner was in the studio working hard on his debut album with artists and producers Scott Harris and Joel Little (Shawn Mendes, Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber, Lorde, Taylor Swift) and two-time GRAMMY Award-nominee Rob Kirwan (Hozier, PJ Harvey, U2).

Spilt Milk Festival is returning to regional and central hubs across Australia this November and December, extending its run to include Perth.

Headlined by international heavyweight Post Malone and previous The Music cover artist Dom Dolla, Spilt Milk wows with its variety and huge names. The event has also locked in Latto (US), Tkay MaidzaCub SportBudjerahLastlingsPeach PRC, Sydney rock music chameleons RedHook and many more.

The festival will be heading to Canberra on Saturday, 25 November, Gold Coast on Sunday, 26 November, and Ballarat on Saturday, 2 December, before making its debut on the shores of Perth on Sunday, 3 December.

Kushner was also due to perform two solo headline shows, one at Sydney’s Roundhouse on Thursday, 23 November, and another at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on Thursday, 30 November.

Tour promoters Secret Sounds assured punters that “tickets will be automatically refunded in full to the original payment method used for purchase, and patrons do not need to take any action.”
