"[Tyler, The Creator] is the reason I made this album. He’s the one who told me to do it, just go for it."
Lil Yachty is a huge fan of Tyler, The Creator.
In an interview with Billboard in support of his most recent album Let's Start Here, Yachty shared his desire to make a record with Tyler, as well as describing his admiration for the artist.
In the interview he said, "I would love to do a project with Tyler [The Creator].
"He’s the reason I made this album. He’s the one who told me to do it, just go for it. He’s so confident and I have so much respect for him because he takes me seriously, and he always has.”
He was also inspired by other hip-hop chameleons. He said that the likes of Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Drake, Cardi B, Kid Cudi, A$AP Rocky and others heard the album before feeling confident to release it. After they heard it, Yachty had the confidence to go full steam ahead.
In the interview he shared his passion for his project, "I just want people to understand I love this. This is not a joke to me. And I can stand with my chest out because I’m proud of something I created.”

Fans have applauded Lil Yachty for the release of his genre-bending, psych-rock inspired new album Let's Start Here. The album is a welcome turn for the artist, who has consistently pushed boundaries in the spheres of genre and as a public personality.
Due to his uniqueness, Lil Yachty has often been the punching bag of all things wrong about hip hop from the late 2010s to now. He's often blamed as the figurehead of mumble rap, a derogatory term often used to diss the new era of hip hop.
This criticism isn't valid, Yachty has faced criticism in the past purely for being different and unique, rather than for the quality of his music.
