Melbourne's Sun Cycle is kicking off for another year next weekend with an allstar line up including Mildlife, CC:DISCO! and more!
After its hugely successful debut ringing in the new year on New Years Day in 2020, Melbourne/Naarm festival Sun Cycle is making its return within 2021.
Going down at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on January 30th, this year's Sun Cycle will see performances by CC:DISCO!, Mildlife, Wax'o Paradiso, C.FRIM, Izy, Sophie McAlister with Chris Gill (Northside Records) and a special Welcome to Country.
The event, produced by the legends at Crown Ruler and WAT Artists, features the carefully curated and high-quality line up we've come to know and love from both parties in the work they do for their communities, exploring the rich tapestry of dance culture with globally influenced dance sounds as well as jazz, soul, and so much more. With a focus on freedom in dance in interaction, this year's Sun Cycle is also paying its respects to the enduring struggle for First Nations and BIPOC and will be a statement against racism.
Organisers said in a statement, “We dance on land that was forcibly taken from Aboriginal people. We will mark the day with a significant Welcome To Country,, a moment we encourage all of our patrons to engage with and reflect on. The messages of equality and sustainability will be a common-thread through not only our lineup but the environment we come together in.”
