Travis Scott has announced he’ll be performing at Circus Maximus, the ancient Roman chariot-racing stadium and mass entertainment venue in Rome on Monday, August 7, to celebrate the release of his new album UTOPIA.

It seems fitting, considering that the new album was released alongside Scott’s' film titled Circus Maximus, which he co-directed with Harmony Korine, Khalil Joseph, Gaspar Noe, Nicolas Winding Refn, and Valdimar Jóhannsson.

ICYMI: Travis Scott finally dropped his fourth studio album on Friday, July 28, and was planning to debut the new album and the film with a listening party and live stream from the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.

However, it was reported on July 20 that The Egyptian Musicians Syndicate (via Egypt Today) said the show would no longer go ahead due to safety concerns and “peculiar rituals performed by the star during his performance, contradicting our authentic societal values and traditions.”

While Live Nation initially released a statement that assured fans that “there have been no changes to Travis Scott’s show in Egypt” and “any reports to the contrary are false”, they weren’t able to get the show across the line in the end, citing “complex production issues”.

“We regret to inform you that the UTOPIA show, originally scheduled for July 28th at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt is cancelled,” Live Nation Middle East said in a statement. “Unfortunately, despite highest efforts, complex production issues meant that the show could not be constructed in the desert.”

Scott also took to Twitter to tell fans the Pyramid shows “will happen” eventually.

“Egypt at the pyramids will happen. But due to demand and detail logistics. They just need a bit a time to set lay on lands. I will keep u posted on a date which will be soon love you alllll”.

Despite the vent being canned, fans took it upon themselves to throw their own listening party on July 28 near the Pyramids.

UTOPIA comes five years following his highly-acclaimed album ASTROWORLD, which was nominated for best rap album at the 2019 Grammy Awards and featured Scott’s first No. 1 hit and RIAA diamond-certified single SICKO MODE.
