MAX LEONE - Cautious
Portland-born MAX LEONE is an act worth keeping both eyes firmly fixed on. His latest single, 'Cautious', is a buzzed-out, bass-y trip that stomps right into your mind and whisks you far away. From gentle guitar plucks to heaving bass, the unpredictability of the production lays down the perfect bed for Leone's indie vocals to really shine on. Of the track, Max said, "Cautious is about isolating yourself from the world in an attempt to protect yourself from it, but ultimately discovering that the beauty and meaning in life is often derived through its discomfort." Taken from a forthcoming EP, Max Leone is one to watch!

OLIVER MALCOLM - Switched Up
Swedish-born, UK-raised and LA-based Oliver Malcolm shared his debut single this week, titled 'Switched Up'. Written, recorded and produced solely by the 20-year-old, up until recently, Malcolm was building his name as a producer for other artists in Southern California before moving into working on his own music, and after one listen to 'Switched Up', we're so glad he did exactly that. Unique vocals combine with an intoxicating bass, an incessant guitar line and off-kilter synths to create an arresting listen, and is the perfect way to introduce himself as a force in his own right. We can't wait to hear more.
MIIESHA - Twisting Words
The first taste of a forthcoming collection of songs titled Nyaaringu, MIIESHA makes her return this week with 'Twisting Words'. An uplifting, infectious single that showcases just how much of a powerhouse she really is, MIIESHA well and truly delivers with this one. Her soulful voice absolutely soars alongside searing guitars, groovy percussion and a funky bass line, and combined with an accompanying video, 'Twisting Words' is all the proof you need to know that MIIESHA really is the real deal. Nyaaringu, translating to 'What Happened' in Pitjantatjara, is out May 29th and is already shaping to be a seriously exciting record.
VLOSSOM - My Friend
Coinciding with the news that their debut EP is on the way and out April 3rd, Vlossom are back with another euphoric thumper in 'My Friend'. The new project from PNAU's Nick Littlemore and Cloud Control's Alister Wright, Vlossom has gone from strength to strength thanks to an unbeatable string of singles, and 'My Friend' is no different. Employing both members' incredible abilities to craft total earworms that take the listener to new heights, 'My Friend' does exactly that thanks to an infectious hook, a thumping beat and the duo's now trademark vibrancy and undeniable energy.
YOUNG FRANCO - Juice Ft. Pell
Young Franco makes his very welcome return this week with 'Juice', a twinkling late night groove featuring New Orleans based rapper Pell. An exercise in Young Franco doing what he does best, 'Juice' is is a fusion of house, rap and pop complete with glitchy keys, a classic four to the floor beat and oh-so-cool vocals courtesy of Pell. Making like LIZZO, Young Franco confirmed having the juice is all about when you're feeling damn good. Speaking of his latest bop, he said, "For me, Juice is a song you put on when you're feeling good about yourself. Something you put on first thing in the morning, when you're about to go out or when you have to get shit done. YOU GOT THE JUICE."
NERVE - Hopscotch
There's no denying that 2020 is Brisbane rapper NERVE's year. After a prolific and explosive twelve months in 2019, he's now set to double down this year and really make sure anyone who is still sleeping on him has no choice but to wake up already. His latest effort is a bit of a switch up as he sets aside his gritty, hard hitting previous efforts in favour of a more pop-focused single on 'Hopscotch', and it's thanks to NERVE's undeniable versatility that he sounds just as at home here than ever before. Tapping Chelsea Warner for extra vocals and as always coming hand-in-hand with a Kyel Golly directed video clip, NERVE is back better than ever with this latest single.
MOTEZ - Patience
A week when there's new music from MOTEZ is always going to be a good week. The final installment in the three part club series following ‘Toggle’, and ‘Where Have You Been’, MOTEZ' latest release comes in the form of 'Patience' and is another stellar example of why he really is one of the very best around right now. As always, Motez' music comes with the added benefit of being quite thoughtful as well as absolutely banging, and 'Patience' is no exception. According to the Australian/Iraqi producer, 'Patience' saw him take an introspective look into his own development, and the practice of enjoying the present moment. Motez said of the special new single, "This track was created during a period of creative and personal change, while on an extended US writing trip for a longer-than-usual time. This always brings me frustration, as I am not particularly patient and I realised in order for me to capitalise on this change, I had to learn that patience is a virtue and what it truly means. It became clear that Patience not only helps with the end result but also makes you enjoy and appreciate the process itself, to learn from it and think long-term.” Turn this one all the way up to eleven and party with purpose and patience thanks to Motez!
TOKiMONSTA - One Day Ft. Bibi Bourelly and Jean Deaux
An empowering, heartfelt, and drum-driven anthem written, produced, and performed solely by women, TOKiMONSTA's latest single is a fierce call to arms for women everywhere. Teaming up with Def Jam's Bibi Bourelly and Chicago's very own artist, filmmaker and musician Jean Deaux, 'One Day' is the latest release from TOKiMONSTA's forthcoming new album, Oasis Nocturno. It features each artist in their absolute prime, from TOKiMONSTA's trademark meticulous, percussion-focused production to Bourelly's emotive vocals. Speaking on the new single, TOKiMONSTA shares, "Buried deep inside us is the will to overcome the most difficult hardships. As women, Bibi Bourelly, Jean Deaux, and I know how strong you have to be to push forward when no one believes in you. 'One Day' is dedicated to every person of every creed feeling life's hardships, but not losing themselves to it. Our drive and our determination will guide us to the faint light at the end of the tunnel."
PHOEBE BRIDGERS - Garden Song
Phoebe Bridgers returned this week with eagerly anticipated new solo material in the form of 'Garden Song'. Arguably one of her best singles yet under her solo moniker, 'Garden Song' puts Bridgers' impeccable songwriting ability on full display, candidly and concisely letting listeners into her life. The song is so simple and therein lies its power as one of the most emotive songs we've heard all year. It just gets right in under your skin as Bridgers openly mulls and muses about things that might be mundane or ordinary and makes it utterly magical. The accompanying visuals, which open with her ripping a bong, were filmed by her younger brother Jackson who was to “surprise” her with what happens next after said bong-rip. It's definitely a sight to behold, and a truly exciting moment for Bridgers who continues her trajectory into total world domination.
MILAN RING - Switch Off
Sydney-based singer, songwriter, producer and multi-talented performer MILAN RING makes her much-anticipated return this week with 'Switch Off'. Teaming up with The Social Experiment (regular collaborators with Chance The Rapper), Milan Ring is in fine form with her signature vocals and soulful guitar above a heavenly arrangement as she sings of needing to switch off and appreciate the beauty around. “‘Switch Off’ is a meditation on finding space and beauty within. It’s about fanning away the outside noise and societal pressures that we are constantly bombarded with, to connect with something deeper," Milan Ring said. The first of hopefully a whole lot more to come this year, Milan Ring once again hits a homerun on this latest release, and we can't wait to hear more.
