On her second single, 'Undecided', Jeffe exceeds the hype that has fuelled her meteoric rise through Australia’s list of most-promising-up-and-comers so far
Following the news of her appearances at the 2018 BIGSOUND conference, alongside support slots for NO MONO on their upcoming national tour, Sydney artist JEFFE has unveiled her sophomore single, ‘Undecided’, a flickering, moody piece of organic electronica that exceeds the hype that has fuelled her meteoric rise through Australia’s list of most-promising-up-and-comers thus far.
Where Jeffe’s debut single ‘Whoever You Love, I’m Cool’ was a woozy daydream of a track, layering delicate vocals over looped horns and wilting strings to hypnotic effect, its follow-up is a more uptempo outing, seemingly out of the daydream and ready for the dancefloor. Except that it’s not entirely dancefloor-ready. Instead, it’s caught somewhere between the bedroom and the dancefloor, burrowing a space for Jeffe’s emotionally-rich songwriting and moody vocals that’s both neon-lit and nervous at the same time.
It’s a space which is primarily given shape through a bouncy synth line that shudders with an apprehensive energy and Jeffe’s captivatingly gentle vocal delivery. Working again with producer DAVE HAMMER, Jeffe crafts a meticulously layered, flickering sound-palette, one that feels soft but also blown-out, as if its pushing the limits of the bedroom-dancefloor space they’ve created with a tinge of distortion on the pulsating synths and electronic drums sporadically falling around the mix.

“In between a mistake / I’d be lying if I said I’m okay / I just wanna be safe / And I can’t hide it… I’m a hundred percent undecided”, Jeffe sings on the track’s chorus. ‘Undecided’ builds a place in between mistakes, a place where it’s safe to be as undecided as you need to, the musicality of the track bringing a perfect synergy to Jeffe’s brooding lyricism and soft vocal delivery. The only thing that doesn’t sound undecided about the track is Jeffe’s continued ascent.
