Live Review: Kilter serves two angsty bops with ‘Tmper/One in Hand’

Sydney producer Kilter releases new two-track instrumental dealing with themes of angst, introspection, displacement but ultimately perseverance

KILTER is back with more banging tunes, releasing a two-track instrumental. ‘Tmper’ and ‘One in Hand’ are a taste of what’s to come from Kilter in 2019 and are the result of a year spent relentlessly writing. They both reflect a main theme of introspection and serve as an ode to the journey of creative process.

Kilter comments on the titles, “These two tracks are a testament to perseverance. Both developing over time and often taking a back seat to other music I have been working on. They are a great bridge between my existing and yet to be released works as they capture a lot of the frenetic energy of my last year.”

Feelings of angst, displacement and isolation from bouncing around studios in LA, Australia and New Zealand are personified in his music. However, much like true moments of uncertainty, there is always a breakthrough leading to something beautiful.  This is reflected in both tracks, which tap into this ‘frenetic energy’ but eventually switch to a feeling of conclusion and satisfaction at the end.

Both tracks are a great representation of the breadth of Kilter’s production style, and I found ‘Tmper’ to be a bit more electronic and funky while ‘One in Hand’ felt more melancholy and frantic.

Another testament to Kilter’s production skill is his reputation within the music scene, where he is one of the top 20 most streamed electronic artists in the country. He has remixed for artists along the likes of Duke Dumont, Jax Jones and RÜFÜS DU SOL and his latest take on PNAU’s new hit ‘Solid Gold’ will be landing this June.
