Live Review: PREMIERE: ford.'s 'Slack' fuses acoustic sensibilities with production complexities

15 November 2018 | 12:13 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Who doesn't love a sneaky little peep into a record coming out soon? We certainly do! And we hope you do too. We've got a little taste of what's to come from FORD.'s debut LP (The) Evening, and it comes to us today in the form of 'Slack', an electronic number that twists and changes with each passing second, paired with a forward-thinking, beat-laden melody.

The record is set to be released via ODESZA's seminal Foreign Family Collective so you know this one means business.

Featuring Chicago producer Knapsack, the pair fuse a guitar-laden melody with a number of different complex percussive lines that come together like a puzzle. It's wonky electronica at its finest, but there's a layer of delicacy to it that makes this feel fluid and wondrous, rather than jarring and edgy.

'Slack' is both a slow-burning acoustic jam and an addictive slice of electronic complexities. We're eased into the fusion of the two sounds with a simple beat which gains momentum and adds density as the track goes on. This one's all about celebrating the intricacies, and with each listen, you'll find more and more of the track's nuances become more apparent.

Of the single, he said:

This project was definitely a new experience for me, in terms of my being able to experiment with different genres and try new styles. Knapsack and I have been friends for a fat minute and have always wanted to hop on a track together so this was definitely a fun experience in that respect. Making this track together allowed us to produce something that was a perfect blend of both our styles - something quite different from past projects

With this addition to the current roster of singles, it's only telling how much versatility we're to expect within this record and with an air of confidence, ford. will continually keep us guessing.
