Live Review: Tkay Maidza remains unstoppable with new heater 'Syrup'

Tkay Maidza is back for more with the unleashing of another dominating new single, this time with a self-assured trudge in 'Syrup'.

After setting our lives alight with the release of the incendiary 'KIM' featuring Yung Baby Tate and covering The Pixies' 'Where Is My Mind?', Tkay Maidza is back for more today with the release of 'Syrup'. A thundering beat meets gritty distortion and a menacing vocal performance from Maidza, and proves yet again that the rising rap force can't possibly miss.

As she snarls “I just wanna be rich... thick... sweet... sick," you're positively pulled into thick sludge of the production. Her slow drip feed of rhymes mimics that of syrup drip-dropping off a spoon, unhurried and in its own time. It's similar to Maidza herself as she remains firmly on her own path, sticking to her plan and not diverting from it. She's utterly herself more than ever before, and it shines through on each release, even with its wide versatility and sonic diversity. From the brazen firestarter of 'KIM' to the self-assured trudge of 'Syrup', Tkay Maidza is in the driver's seat and we are all on board.

Tipping that there is still more music to come, these releases we have had this year follow an already meteoric rise for Tkay. Having first burst onto the scene in 2013, she has continually leveled up over her near-decade-long career, and with the unveiling of her LAST YEAR WAS WEIRD EP series which has already gifted us two volumes so far, she's stuck to her guns, allowed herself to explore her myriad of skills, and now is ready to conquer.
