An Asteroid Has Officially Been Named After SOPHIE by the International Astronomical Union

 The International Astronomical Union has named an astroid, Sophiexeon, following a recent petition by fans to immortalise the producer.

Following a recent petition by fans for a exoplanet to be named after the late, great, SOPHIE, The International Astronomical Union has named an astroid, Sophiexeon.

The asteroid was originally named RE1 and discovered by Antonín Mrkos at the Kleť Observatory in the Czech Republic.

The news was made public today via an announcement from the IAU, which stated, "SOPHIE was known as an electronic music pioneer whose futuristic style changed the landscape of pop music in the early 21st century,”

"SOPHIE has influenced so many of us, and now she will forever be part of the cosmos,” petition starter Christian Arroyo wrote.

The announcement comes a week following the 1 year anniversary of her passing.
