Phoebe Bridgers Shared What We Were All Thinking When The Queen Passed

Phoebe Bridgers has taken to her Instagram stories to say what a lot of people were thinking after Queen Elizabeth II passed away.

The Queen (Phoebe Bridgers) reflected on the monarchy's troubled past (which is jam packed with colonialism and genocide) with a series of Instagram stories that reflected on Elizabeth's reign.

She reposted a statement that compared the royal to a war criminal saying, "Today we mourn all the stolen, violated, and traumatized lives who were affected and destroyed during Qween [sic] Elizabeth II’s reign,

“Today is a brutal reminder that war criminals will be honoured while entire populations and societies bear the battle scars of colonial genocidal violence, invasion, religious persecution, and white supremacy.”

The post was shared from RISEindigenous' Instagram account who amplifies, evolves and uplifts Indigenous art and culture around the world. 

Phoebe Bridgers is far from alone in her way of thinking, with many Indigenous communities and victims of The Queen's reign reflecting on her death critically. Professor Sandy O'Sullivan took to the IndigenousX Twitter account to say, "For those saying we should be magnanimous about the passing of the queen, a reminder that the queen inserted herself into the lives of Indigenous people here multiple times. She wasn't a bystander to the effects of colonisation and colonialism, she was an architect of it."

Briggs also commented on the situation declaring that "It's amazing; the amount of wealth you can accumulate when your family steals and enslaves half the world."

While Phoebe Bridgers was critical of the Queen's reign, many artists had outpouring tributes to her majesty including Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Elton John. 

Mick Jagger posted a heartfelt reflection on the passing stating, "For my whole life Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II has always been there. In my childhood, I can recall watching her wedding highlights on TV. I remember her as a beautiful young lady, to the much-beloved grandmother of the nation. My deepest sympathies are with the Royal family."

Elton John, a long time fan of the royal family posted his own thoughts on her passing writing, "She was an inspiring presence to be around, and lead the country through some of our greatest, and darkest, moments with grace, decency and a genuine caring warmth. Queen Elizabeth has been a huge part of my life from childhood to this day, and I will miss her dearly.”
