Melbourne producer DEER has unveiled a thoroughly melodic and vocal driven AA side release as final offering for 2017 , entitled 'Selfish Behaviours / On My Own'.
Deer, aka Tom Hitchcock, has been brewing away in both Australian and international electronic music scenes for a wee while, recently turning things up with a renewed focus on pop-driven productions. Deer's outputs often exhibit intricacy and refinement, and through implementing a single-by-single approach, Hitchcock has continuously developed his sonic palette, traversing the junctures of club-fuelled beats, heavy bass and enchanting pop across varying territories of contemporary electronic production.
The doubled release of these two tracks sees Deer further coagulate his music's direction through contemporary electronic experimentation, staking out a firm place in the realms of idiosyncratic pop as we approach the New Year.
'Selfish Behaviours' exhibits an intricate melodic structure and a strong focus on vocal production, constantly building chord progressions and instrumental textures under layers of heavily processed vocals, which slowly amass into a climatic and perturbed close.

'On My Own' is a self-reflection to one’s personal fears and explores themes surrounding identity and growth. Shifting semitones from the synth lead create dissonance throughout with muffled synth pads and distorted vocals, contrasting against the warmer timbres from the bass to give the narrative nuances of both anguish and comfort.
We're really digging this new direction from Deer, so we're also already excited to see what new developments unfurl from his upcoming releases in 2018. Be sure to watch this space!
