Tame Impala Sound System set to make its live debut next month

8/02/21 UPDATE: Tame Impala has announced second Perth headline performance for SNACK Weekender on Saturday 6 March, to accompany the previously announced show, now rescheduled for Friday 5 March at Metro City. Links and info below.

The end of 2020 should’ve been marked for many Australians by witnessing Kevin Parker and co perform their biggest Tame Impala shows in Australia yet as they were set to bring The Slow Rush to stadiums around the country. However, due to the you-know-what pandemic, the universe had other plans. Now, as live music makes it slow return to our lives, Tame Impala have indeed been booked for a live show in 2021 — although in a slightly different capacity.

Eagle-eyed Tame fans would recall that despite their live plans being canned last year, Kev kept quite busy indeed with a steady release of content including covers, remixes, live-streamed sets and more on top of their ARIA-winning, GRAMMY-nominated fourth album (read our review here). Some of these live streamed sets were titled “Tame Impala Sound System,” as coined by Parker himself in their performance for NPR’s Tiny Desk series. Comprised of Parker, as well as long time band mates Jay Watson (AKA GUM) and Dom Simper (AKA Bambi), it seems the trio set up might be sticking around for a while with their first live performance booked next month in their native WA.

Perth punters will be graced with the debut performance of Tame Impala Sound System next month as part of a two-day special event titled SNACK Weekender. Tame Impala Sound System will headline the first night, while Lime Cordiale will headline the second, held at Stadium Park, near the Optus Stadium in Perth.

Speaking of his first show in quite some time, Parker said in a press release, “We can’t wait to be in front of some people again and think we’re going to feel right at home inside the Boombox, too.”

Parker also celebrated the recent fifth birthday of Tame Impala‘s game-changing Currents album, which just went platinum in the US. Read our retrospective piece here. He’s been keeping busy with a string of activities and content for fans, including performing for Stephen Colbert‘s show, releasing a new remix for 070 Shake, and jumping on Song Exploder.
